Unfortunately, I still need JS for some things to work properly. You're welcome to keep it disabled, but the onus is on you if some things don't work (I promise I'll get around to fixing it)...

2021-01-11 | The Next Step

Somehow we managed to pull through 2020, ans it's out of the frying pan and into the fryer! But in reality, I think 2021 should be better than 2020, though there will be quite a bit of upheaval this summer I think as the virus weans and the economy starts to reconcile with its actual losses.

One benefit of more automation in the workplace is that fewer in-person jobs are needed thereby not affecting the economy as much if a human doesn't show up.

In theory that would mean that fewer people are needed for traditionally bad jobs like welders and fast foods joints, but on the other hand, it may become more difficult to find entry work that doesn't require much training meaning the barrier to entry into the workforce will be significantly higher (also causing yet another disparity in classes). I highly doubt computers will be going away any time soon, so for most people I think it would be most beneficial to learn technical skills in addition to arts and humanities so that they can be familiar and involved with the revolution rather than being left in its wake.

I anticipate these issues to become a more political sticking point in the next 5 to 10 years (which means it'll probably be an issue in 20), so expect to either lose your job, a reduction of hours, or get a pay raise, and if none of those happen then that's likely a strong indicator that something is significantly wrong with wealth distribution.
