Unfortunately, I still need JS for some things to work properly. You're welcome to keep it disabled, but the onus is on you if some things don't work (I promise I'll get around to fixing it)...

Life seems to consist of optimization (spoken as a true engineer, I know). However, living on the move over the past few weeks has forced me to recognize just how much stuff I have, how much is truly needed, and what I can completely strip away. This applies to other facets of life of course; take my phone for example. I have very few games installed, and I use it predominantly for taking pictures, listening to music, and communication. I take away the frivolous things, and I'm left with what truly matters. For me, when receiving gifts I prefer the most practical option as it gives me the greatest pleasure being able to use something from someone everyday (for example, I had asked for a trashcan for a birthday, and it was a great gift, and my friend had given me a key-chain multi-tool that I've used nearly everyday since).

I don't believe that I am alone in this attitude, certainly getting things that look nice or are fun to play with may be good for a time, but their impact is not long lasting or appreciated as often as that of a practical gift. Nevertheless, this all depends on what you value; personally I value utility over aesthetic, so it makes sense that I would want a practical gift over a pretty one.

Essentially boiling down to a simple life, in my opinion, can lead to greater satisfaction due to the ability to keep up with motif not all the objects you own and aren't overwhelmed by the sheer amount of them and leads to greater focus on what/who is important in life.
